Another interesting thing...

Another interesting thing happened to me today. Will I forever say "interesting thing" when I mean "I got in a car wreck"? Yep. I was on my way from Lafayette Life (where my dad works) and I went to McDonald's and got some pie for breakfast, then something around 9:45 or 10:00 I was on 52 turning left onto Main Street. Well I apparently looked at the wrong light (because it really is a very confusing intersection.) and went when I didn't actually have the green. So I was almost out of my turn and I saw that this car was coming full speed at me and not slowing down, so I did the thing that I always do, and every book around will tell you not to do. I slowed down. So the back passenger side door got smashed, but other than that absetively nothing happened. I guess my dad saw that something was wrong with the guy's truck, but I didn't see it. Still went to debate class, because I wanted to get on with life. If I had just gone home or something I would have sat around for a long time and probably wouldn't start driving again for at least a week. Of course I was alone, driving by myself for like... The third time ever. Plus I'd never tried that turn by myself, I've only ever even been there one time before. The cop was weird, too. Like his words were nice but his tone was unkind=P
So that was my adventure today. How many other people get in two accidents in under six months? I have to be very careful now, if I get a ticket or another accident (hope that never happens again. Ever.) then I get my license taken and I have to go back to permit which would totally stink. Until the end of March, I'm a bit scared to do any driving. Even though my dad had me drive around all over the place today...

Wha?

I never thought I would be the last Lanz in the Voyageur Ancient Fife and Drum Corps. I thought wrong. James has quite decided that he's going to quit. His dicision puzzles me... Drumming is my all time favorite thing to do. Ever. I would die if I had to quit. (Ok, maybe I wouldn't die, but it would be close=P) Here James is turning in his uniform. He plans to call Terry a little later to inform him of the choice, and I will be going to practice for the next three years by myself. I always said "I'm not Rachael" or "I'm not the same as the rest of my family" and apparently James isn't either. I think he's going for baseball... I guess you never know what may happen tomorrow.

after

The debate tournement is now over. Nathanael and I won two rounds, lost two rounds. With a score like that, we didn't place. I did, however get two first speaker's out of four which is cool. Nathanael placed fifth in original oratory in yesterday's speech tournement with six of nine first places. Pretty decent year, I'd say=)

Tournement

Well it's that time of year again. Today is begins the Lafayette Speech and Debate tournement. I belong to a club this year, what is it... Quo Vadis, I think? Silly speech kids. Anywho, I was supposed to be debating novice, but the numbers were messed up (15 novice, 9 advanced) so we got switched to advanced. I guess we'll see how that goes. I have two hour until I have to be at the church setting up, and until then... I guess I'm going to Staples and maybe Wal Mart and somewhere to get fingernail polish remover becuase I forgot to take my gross chipping black off=P
I'll post later about how the tourney went.

I will.

"You're climbing to the top of the mountain, and there are rocks falling on you, and you get so discouraged but you have to make it to the top of the mountain. I don't care if you crawl on your hands and knees to get there, because when you make it to the top you're able to stand on the top of the mountain. You have teeth knocked out and you're all beat up, but you made it to the top of the mountain, and you're finally able to stand and said 'I made it.' So today, you're going to make it to the top of the mountain. You will not stop until you reach the top. This team will not lose another game. There hasn't been a game that you girls should have lost. You will come to practice, and you will practice at home, because you're that good. You girls have too much talent not to practice. I should have given you this talk at the beginning of the season like I did last year, but I didn't... So you're getting it now. We will not lose another game, because you're better than that. You're better than any other team out there, and it's time you start running your plays like we practiced."
What is this, and what did it lead to? This was my basketball coach before our game last night. What it led to was a thirty point win for the varsity girl's Tornados team. I honestly think that that speech made us want to win, made us (or me, at least) need to win. For me, because I felt so bad about losing all these games that I knew we could win but we just gave up.
So, I've decided I will practice, every day. Hold me to that, anyone who reads this, will ya? Because I know I won't do it by myself. I don't have very good... Oh what's the word? self... AGH that word that means you make yourself do stuff, like no one else is making you, but you're making you. That word.
I will be a mother bear protecting her cub. The ball is mine. The game is mine. Every point the other team made, made me feel like I wasn't doing something right, even though we were thrity points up on them. I still did not want them to make a single point. Am I that mean?

What would you call it....

What do you call it when all these things come together?
1. Christina training center
2. movie tickets
3. a clown
4. ice skates
5. The mall
6. two A.M.
7. Away from home for an entire day
8. Mountain Dew
9. presents
10. dress up
I suppose I can't guess what you would call it, but I'd call it Audrey's 16th birthday party. We're having a blast=P

"Can you see the future?"
